On November 18th 2007 Christie's ran an ad in the NY Times that boasted, "This season, this year, and for the last five years, Christie's has led the global market for Post-War and Contemporary Art. This Fall in New York, Christie's achieved the highest total of $480,546,180." This statement was was set against Ed Ruscha's painting of a gas station on fire. A curious ad that appeared, as it turns out, almost to the date on the 5th anniversary of the vote to pass the resolution to invade Iraq.
